I had an appointment with this salon today. I just wanted my hair washed and detangled. The lady with the baby did my hair. To my horror, she lightly sprayed my hair with a detangler on my majority wet hair. I’ve never had that done before. I always thought that with black hair, you wash the hair first and then you detangle the hair. I wasn’t even at the wash bowl when she was detangling my hair. I don’t know if that method is what Africans do but us Foundational Black Americans, we have our hair soaking wet when we detangle. Then when it comes time to wash my hair, it felt like a very light wash. I didn’t feel the slip or anything. She takes me back to the chair she started doing my hair and starts detangling and my hair wasn’t wet wet. Then she gets this blow dryer looking thing. I looked like “what is this?” She asked if I wanted my hair dried? I said no. I paid in advance for a wash and detangle. Not a wash, detangle, and dry. I am not going back only because their technique is not my style. Beautiful salon and I noticed that the dreadlocks and cornrows looked beautiful from what I saw. So, perhaps dealing with natural hair is not their forte....more

All the staff members are efficient, kind, and communicative. Questions are answered quickly via text, and their work is top tier. This was my first time coming to a braiding shop in LA and I had a great experience! I'd brought in mixed colors of braiding hair (#4/#27/#30) and added wavy hair that I'd bought in the same colors for full bora bora braids (intentionally thin braids because I didn't want them to be heavy).

The wavy hair came with wefts since it was originally intended for weaving, and they graciously cut it into bulk hair although the weave hair hadn't been the most suitable for the style in comparison to bulk hair & made their work a bit more difficult.

I felt accommodated throughout the entire experience, and there was never a moment when I felt unattended to. I had two people working on my braids as a team, sometimes alternating. When one person took a break, someone else stepped in & everyone was really nice and worked quickly. They also had snacks available, which was great because I'd come in having forgotten to eat while prepping my hair and braiding materials.

The braids themselves didn't hurt at all at any point (no holding the braid down to avoid a headache or tightness afterwards), and the braids feel firmly attached with no slippage even with my fine hair strands & minimal gel usage.

Most importantly, the braids look amazing!! They made the colors blend so well and tucked the added hair really well. Some of my favorite braids ever....more

I just had the most incredible experience at Salon Daba and I couldn’t wait to share it! I went in for Chanel braids, also known as Bora Bora, and what unfolded was a heartwarming, unforgettable adventure.

From the moment I entered, the atmosphere felt like a cozy family gathering. Though we started late in the evening, the entire team came together to work on my hair—they really went above and beyond! It felt like being back home in Africa, surrounded by all the aunties lovingly doing your hair, sharing stories, laughter, and love.

Amina, who is the owner led the team, but it was such a collaborative effort! Everyone pitched in, dancing and singing while expertly braiding my hair, creating an uplifting vibe that made me forget I was in a salon. It was like a little celebration, and I felt surrounded by warmth and positivity.

While getting my hair done, I observed all the other customers in the salon. Every single person seemed to thoroughly enjoy the service, but most importantly, they were relaxed and loved their hair. The smiles, the hugs, and the sheer joy radiating from everyone showed how special they felt. Great first experience at Salon Daba! Came in to get touch-ups on my faux locs, and was able to text with them beforehand about the service. They were greatly communicative and transparent about their offerings and pricing. Once there, I didn't wait long before being seated and the stylist re-confirmed with me to make sure I wanted my whole head and not just the front retouched. I was able to let her know that my scalp was sensitive, and requested that my roots don't be wrapped too tightly.
